Font - Boss told me to deep clean the back and to not come to front for any reason so i did M OC I'm a twenty-year-old male that works at a very popular restaurant in a very snobby area. My main job is to assist the servers in any way I can so they only have to worry about sweet-talking the customers.

Font - I do all the heavy lifting for them whether it's cleaning their tables, or taking their drinks and food to their tables I'm doing it and all they have to focus on is making the customers laugh. They get tips that range from 17-40 dollars per table while I make 8 dollars an hour and get treated poorly, enough backstory cue the malicious compliance

Font - My manager came up to me in a, I'm better than you mood and told me to DEEP clean the floors, ice makers, walls, trash cans, and racks and to not come to the front for any reason. I'm very annoyed at this because none of those things are my job duties, we have a staff that deals with all the cleaning of the back, so it didn't make any sense to have me do it, these tasks would've taken me an hour and a half max but I was feeling a bit cheeky and decided to really deep clean the back until

Font - About 30 minutes later the same manager comes up to me and tells me that there are 4 tables that need cleaning and 2 other tables just got sat and I need to bring their drinks to them, I looked at this man with a stare of a 20-year- old that has no bills to pay and I say no I'm not done cleaning he looked shocked and responded angrily you can finish later they need help and I countered with no it's filthy here we don't want a health inspector to just walk into this filth do we, he storms

Font - 2 hours go by and I'm on my hands and knees scrubbing as If I was working for chef Gordon Ramsey himself, the same manager comes back again with a smirk and says wow this looks like it's going to take you all day long maybe you should come to the front and help the servers since there's a huge Sunday rush I replied with you know, you might just be right and I go back to cleaning he storms off again.

Font - fast forward to 2 mins before my shift ends my knees, legs, and fingers are all aching from cleaning, I shuffle my way to the front where my manager has been waiting for me and he says you finally decided to come help huh and I look at him with out saying anything and clocked out and then I tell him sorry I'm not clocked in, I walked out to my car while he was blowing my phone up I didn't care I had five days off back to back and he can't fire me since I did as he told me too. The moral o

Font - slappymcslappers +1. 19 hr. ago You're getting shafted in many ways. In a restaurant with tipping, people that help the servers get tipped out. That's you. The busser and food runner and barback. If they're giving you only an extra dollar per hour something is majorly wrong.

Font - lunaleeloo edited 19 hr. ago · 20 hr. ago. Did you ever tell him "you told me to clean and not come out for ANY reason"? LOL? I had a manager once (many, many years ago) who thought he was going to make me work Christmas Day and spend new years doing inventory. He was very wrong.

Font - KidenStormsoarer 19 hr. ago +2. hey, pro tip, if you make tipped waged, i.e. you lost out on being tipped out because he had you cleaning, look at your state laws regarding pay. I've never worked in a restaurant, but from what I've heard, they can only have you do a certain amount of work outside your usual duties if it involves you losing out on tips, otherwise they have to make up for the shortfall.

Font - humanneedinghelp +1. 18 hr. ago He can't fire you because if this is what one day of you doing something productive but not your job (because boss man said so) looks like... He can whine all he wants but he's not going to sign up for 5 days of that or more likely 30+ days while he tries to find someone who will accept $8/hr and ultimately gives up and has to accept his new way of life. Maybe the real petty revenge would just be to get a job elsewhere that pays twice as much

Font - LoathsomeNarcisist +2. 14 hr. ago Many years back, my first job was at a fast food chain that did not do breakfast. I had dropped out of High School, and was taking night classes because of fellow students who were bullies. Being free to work earlier, I was often the only guy on the 9am opening shift. I got a lot of heavy lifting jobs tossed my way by the two female managers. I kinda liked that. These women made me feel needed. And then there was Mark.

Font - Mark was a petty, arrogant, tin-horn despot, who came on duty at 10:30, just before the lunch rush, and worked through the dinner rush. Mark didn't open the store. Mark never closed the store. He went home a 6:30pm. He almost never worked weekends. Such menial tasks were beneath him. He acted like he was better than everyone else, even though the two morning managers had seniority.

Font - One rather slow day, at about 1:30 I found myself bored and looking for tasks to keep busy. Every 5 minutes or so I'd be asking one of the ladies what I should do next. I guess it got a bit monotonous for one of them who told me, 'Why don't you ask Mark what you should do?' I looked directly at Mark and said, 'Aww, He's no fun.'
  • 18
Font - Well you would have thought I'd slapped him in the face the way everybody went 'Oooooooooh!' Mark, in a rare display of self restraint, did not yell, he did not belittle me, he just slowly stated, "LN, I want you to.... Clean. The. Dining. Room. Walls."
  • 19
Font - I looked around and realized the walls were kinda grimy. With a huge grin on my face, I replied, Now THAT, is something I can do!' I grabbed a bucket of soapy water and some washcloths. I normally got off at 3pm. I was happily still at it, (almost done really) at 5. When Mark insisted I stop and go home. Mark was somewhere between impressed and defeated that I hadn't hated the task he meant as a punishment.

Font - TexasYankee212 +2. 19 hr. ago I don't understand. How are you supposed to clean the tables and takes their drinks to their tables if the manager tells you "not to come to the front for any reason"? Sounds like the manager didn't know what he/she was talking about. Vote Dio_bean OP O 19 hr. ago Reply Share He likes to put people down and especially give me "projects" because no one else will do anything

Font - Edit: For all the people that have been commenting that "he can fire you" yeah you are right he could, but he won't do that because I'm the only one that is working the position, and no one has applied to come work at the place for $8/hr. There are more details to the story than what I told so instead of trying to be smart just ask why do you say that instead of assuming I'm just some entitled kid who thinks they run the world. Thank you for reading.

Font - Second Edit: good morning everyone sorry I can't read most of y'all's posts, but I'd like to say thank you and answer a couple questions on here. I don't have any living, food, or insurance bills. The only things I have to pay for are my flight school and saving up for a car which I don't consider bills since I'm not being hunted down for those. I am also having a job interview tomorrow at a place that pays $17/hr and I'll be working 1/3 of what I am at my current restaurant job. Lastly I
